Among the trending home, design trends of 2022 include a shift to versatile spaces and curved furnishings. Other trends are borrowed from the previous years, but they come with a few modifications. These include minimalist spaces with colorful black accents, vintage hues, natural lighting, houseplants, etc. We’ve highlighted all these and more in detail below.

1. Versatile Spaces

One of the architectural trends of 2020 and 2021 was indoor-outdoor living. And this became popular for several reasons, the main one being remote work. People began working from home, and they didn’t want to spend all the time in a fully enclosed apartment. This trend will probably continue in 2022 and beyond as more people shift to flexible work schedules.

Besides the indoor-outdoor living design style, we will also see an uptick in versatile spaces. People want to be in the living room and feel like they are relaxing outdoors. Similarly, it will feel more comfortable to sip a cup of coffee in the kitchen while watching the raindrops.

All these fantasies are only possible with a flexible design that prioritizes well-being, comfort, and personal preferences. An example of such design style is a kitchen island that doubles up as a working desk. Or a living room bar with a strategic design. The options are endless.

2. Lighting and Décor Materials

In 2022, it’s evident that more people will be working from home. It’s also likely that this will be reflected in the choice of décor materials and lighting design. Comfort is a priority for many, and natural lighting is perhaps the better option. Nowadays, most architectural designs feature large glass windows and doors to let in more natural light.

Additionally, houseplants in the living and study rooms are now a trend. This is especially the case with nature lovers and health-conscious individuals. As far as personal preferences are concerned, natural wood is becoming more popular with its timeless design. However, a marble countertop in the kitchen is still popular for many.

3. Minimalist Spaces

Minimalist spaces with open floor plans and simple furnishings are still prevalent in 2022. However, this time it comes with a simple twist. Instead of creating a uniform space with a blend of neutral colors, there’s now a massive shift to minimalist colors with some contrast.

For instance, the main elements in the house will feature more neutral colors. However, you’ll introduce some black accents on specific edges to add depth. Imagine large sofas with some black edges. Or a glass table with a black finish on the edges.

4. Delicate Balance of Hues

Throughout 2022, vintage will make a comeback just like we saw in 2021. Most homeowners and interior designers are rethinking their preferences. And bold, dark, brown, and earthy tones are again winning the popularity battle.

People seem to have had enough bright colors and are experimenting with the less shouty tones instead. That said, every homeowner’s preference is unique. So a delicate balance of hues could be the ultimate goal.

5. Curved Furnishings

Over the years, several design styles have emerged, but very few have withstood the test of time. Today, curved furnishings are increasingly becoming popular among interior designers. The concept is to create a smooth and even touch around everyday household elements such as sofas, cabinets, etc.

This design concept is not any new. It started with curved furniture, and it was popular among classic and high-end brands. Fast forward to today, this trend has been embraced as an interior design style. You can now shop the market, and you’ll find chairs, glass tables, reading desks, etc., with curved furnishings.

Conclusion

If you are considering a home remodel or planning to build a new house, there are several home design styles you can borrow. The market is full of options, and you can always use your best judgment to eliminate those beyond your budget. Even so, your ideal home design style for 2022 will mostly be inspired by your taste and preference.

That said, you should consider working with an expert architect and interior designer for the best results. This will save you a lot of time, plus you’ll avoid costly design errors. When choosing an modern architectural firm, pay attention to the level of experience, customer reviews, and cost. You always want to do your research to avoid disappointments in the long run.
