New year, new interior design trends to take inspiration from and give your bedroom a revamp. This year we seem some interesting and diverse rising trends in interior decorating. Some more on the down-low, others bright and bold, but the one thing that unites them all is the shifted emphasis on cosiness and relaxation in the bedroom.
Without further ado, we have selected our top ten interior design trends of 2022 to keep on your radar if you want to redecorate your bedroom.
1. Maximum Relaxation
Your bedroom should be your relaxation sanctuary and this is reflected in this year’s interior design trends. While the aesthetic side certainly matters, comfort prevails in bedroom decorating. The focus turns from luxury and bedazzlement back to the essentials that make your bedroom a soothing haven of relaxation.
We’re talking plush bedding, fluffed up cushions and soft surfaces. All the materials featured in your bedroom should encourage rest and peace above everything else.
2. Priority on Comfort
A bedroom should be above everything else functional. The 2022 bedroom trends put and emphasis on comfort. We spend about one third of our life in bed, above everything else your bed has to be comfy.
The essential parts to achieve that are supportive bed frame, top-quality mattress, as well as pillows that offer enough support for your neck. And if you want your bed to be extra fluffy and feel like a cloud, a mattress topper is also a must. You might have to pay a bit more for premium bedding, but it’s an investment that will be worth down the line.
3. Hidden Storage
We’ve already seen decluttering becoming a big focus in the past couple of years, but 2022 takes it a step further. Not only do we not want any clutter in our bedrooms, but we also want the storage to be barely visible. A perfect solution for that is a divan bed with hidden drawers underneath. You can find divan beds with minimalist designs which feature barely visible drawers on the side of the bed. Throw a bigger duvet that drapes down the side of the bed and no one would even know they’re there.
4. Sustainable Materials
Sustainability has become a focus of our lives and the same can be seen with bed linen. This year we say yes to sustainably sourced materials for all of our bed sheets. Those can include hemp, organic cotton, linen and of course recycled fabrics. The colours tend to be natural shades, and minimal chemical colouring is encouraged. As a coincidence neutral tones tend to have a calming effect on people, so this ideally ties in with the other interior design ideas for 2022.
5. Shapes Inspired by Nature
Interior design is slowly transitioning away from symmetry and precise patterns which have been a trend for the last few year. They’re now being replaced by more natural shapes, wavy lines, terrazzo-style splatters and motifs inspired by nature. The trendiest designs of 2022 might feel a bit abstract to someone who’s more traditional, but we can assure you they’re more versatile than you think.
6. Layered Bedding
A diverse combination of textures is a way to automatically bring some depth and spruce up your interior. With the variation of natural materials, the next obvious trend of this year is layering. Layered hues of the same colour with different textures can feel interesting while providing a sense of serenity. This method can also help define areas in your room such as a meditation or a reading corner.
7. Accent Furniture
Making a return on the interior design scene are brightly painted nightstands, free standing wardrobes and dressers. This is great news for the eclectic style lovers who have been itching to inject a dose of colour into their bedroom. You can be as creative as you want with this! Block tint, antique finish or the classic chalk paint, the choice is completely up to you.
8. Botanical Colour Palettes
Nature is more present in our bedrooms, not only through shapes and patterns, but also with colour schemes. Green has been dominating the interior design world for a while now, but this new year sees a more subtle take on the trend. Previous years we saw a favouritism towards deeper, bolder shades of green much like in a dark moody forest. This year we turn away from the forest and look for inspiration from the green grassy hills and botanical gardens. The preferred green shades of 2022 are pastel green, sage and green-grey blends, which create a more subtle and sophisticated look.
9. Rounded Headboards
In 2022 headboards should be a focal accent of the room. We’ve had our eyes on curved headboards which have been rising in popularity and it looks like this year they’re the star of the show. A rounded headboard is an easy way to add an element of fantasy in your room. Add a wood carved design or some edgy at deco elements and a curved headboard can truly impress any guests.
10. Bunk Beds With Storage
For kids’ bedrooms the emphasis is again on storage solutions and minimal clutter. Bunk beds with extra storage at the base of the bottom bed are the latest craze. We’ve also seen a trend with the lower bunk bed being a bit bigger in size. A decision that makes the top bed a lot safer and offers a perfect solution for parents whose children have a bigger age gap and need different sized beds.
