Doing It Alone

The doors on your home are complex, meaning you probably won’t be able to fix them on your own. People are keener to hire garage door repair services than doing it alone as this is a more reliable option. Doing it alone as a mistake that will destroy your door repair can be costly and time-consuming.

Hiring repair services is the best way to fix your doors. These experts have the tools and experience to quickly fix your doors without causing any further damage. Plus, they can offer you a warranty on their work so that you know it will last.

If you’re set on doing it yourself, then make sure to do plenty of research beforehand and only attempt simple repairs. Otherwise, you could end up doing more harm than good and costing yourself more money in the long run.

Using The Wrong Hardware Fasteners

Hardware fasteners come in all shapes and sizes. Finding the right one for the job is essential to a successful door repair. Using the wrong hardware fasteners can result in damage to the door, frame, or both. It can also void your warranty.

When you’re hiring a professional to do your door repair, be sure to ask about what type of hardware fastener they recommend. If you’re doing it yourself, research the best type of hardware fastener for the job.

Not Lubricating The Moving Parts

It’s absolutely essential to lubricate the moving parts of your door repair, or you will destroy it. All the hardware on your door including the hinges, rollers, locks, and handles need to be lubricated regularly. If you don’t do this, they will eventually seize up and break.

Doing this is easy, and only takes a few minutes. Just get some WD-40 or other lubricant and spray it on all the moving parts. Then open and close the door a few times to work it in.

If you don’t have time to do this regularly, then at least do it once a year. Otherwise, you’ll be sorry when your door repair falls apart and you have to replace it. Trust me, it’s not worth the hassle or expense. So take this advice and lubricate those door repair parts!

Not Using The Proper Tools

There are certain tools that must be used during door repair. These are the following:

  • a screwdriver
  • a hammer
  • a measuring tape
  • a level
  • a saw
  • a drill
  • a set of screwdrivers
  • an Allen wrench
  • a putty knife

If any of these tools are not used, it could result in a less than stellar repair. The door might not be level or the screws might not stay in place. All of these factors can lead to an extensive and costly repair.

So, if you’re not using the proper tools, stop now and reevaluate your door repair strategy. It’s not worth it to cut corners and end up with a subpar repair.

Ignoring The Problem Too Long

Never procrastinate when it comes to door repair because ignoring the problem will only make it worse. The longer you wait, the more damage that can be done and the pricier the repairs will be. So if you see any issue, no matter how small, address it right away!

If you ignore the problem, you are not only risking further damage to your door, but you are also putting yourself and your family at risk. A door that is not functioning properly can be very dangerous.

Not Cleaning The Tracks And Rollers

You must clean the tracks and rollers at least once a year to prevent damage. If you don’t, the dirt and grime will build up and eventually cause the door to not open or close properly. This is a very costly mistake that can easily be prevented.

To clean the tracks, you will need a ladder and a brush. Remove any dirt and debris with the brush and then use a vacuum to suck up any remaining dirt. Finally, wipe the tracks down with a damp cloth. The rollers should be cleaned with a microfiber cloth.

Not Testing The Sensors

It’s necessary to test the sensors to make sure they’re working before you put the door back together. Otherwise, your door repair will be for nothing and your door will remain broken.

Testing the sensors is easy to do and only takes a few minutes. Simply open and close the door several times while monitoring the sensor light. If the light doesn’t come on, then the sensors aren’t working and you’ll need to replace them.

Door repair isn’t easy, which is why it’s smarter to hire professionals. It’s essential to use the right fasteners and always lubricate all moving parts. Use the proper tools and never delay this repair as it will only get worse. It’s essential to clean the tracks and rollers and always test the sensors before saying you’re done. Good luck with your repair!
