Consider the size of your artwork

One important factor to consider when deciding how to display art in your living room is the size of the artwork itself. If you have large pieces, they will obviously need to be hung on larger walls or in more prominent locations. Smaller pieces can be grouped together on one wall or spread out throughout the room.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the scale of the artwork should be appropriate for the space it’s in. For example, a small painting would look lost hanging on a large empty wall, but it would be perfect for filling a narrow space between two windows. Similarly, a very large piece of art might overwhelm a small room, but it would be perfect for making a statement in a spacious living room.

So, when you’re thinking about how to display art in your living room, be sure to take into account the size of the artwork as well as the size of the room. To have a balanced visual aesthetic impact have your artwork or picture frames made to measure in accordance with your living room dimensions. With a little bit of planning, you can create a beautiful and cohesive display that will impress your guests and make your living space even more inviting. If you have limited wall space, don’t worry. Get creative and consider hanging your artwork from ceiling hooks or shelves.

Consider the light source and angle

When displaying artwork in your living room, it’s important to consider the light source and angle. Think about where the light source is coming from and how it will hit the artwork. You don’t want to hang a piece in direct sunlight, as it will fade over time. Artwork that is hung too high or too low can be difficult to see, and harsh lighting can cause glare or wash out the colors. If you have artificial lighting, such as track lighting, make sure it’s not too harsh or bright.

Try to hang artwork at eye level, and use soft lighting to create a warm and inviting space. The goal is to create a soft, even light that will highlight the artwork without washing it out. With a little planning, you can create a beautiful living room that is also a gallery for your favorite art.

Create a cohesive look

One way to create a cohesive look is by choosing a color scheme and sticking to it. This doesn’t mean that every piece of art has to be the same color, but rather that the colors should complement each other. When hanging multiple pieces together, you can achieve cohesiveness by choosing artwork that shares similar colors or themes.  For example, if you have a painting with predominately cool tones, you could choose to display it with other pieces that also have cool tones. Or, if you have a bright and colorful piece, you could pair it with more subdued artwork to create contrast.

Another way to achieve a cohesive look is by hanging artwork at similar heights. This creates visual stability and makes your arrangement look more intentional. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule – sometimes grouping together pieces that are different sizes can create an interesting and dynamic display. But if you’re unsure where to start, hanging artwork at similar heights is a safe bet.

Finally, consider the frames of your artwork. Using similar frames (or no frames at all) can help tie everything together and give your arrangement a polished look. Again, there are exceptions – sometimes using different frames can create an interesting visual effect. But if you’re going for a more cohesive look, sticking to similar frames is usually the way to go. Arrange the pieces so that they are pleasing to the eye and easy to view from different angles in the room. Step back occasionally to see how the arrangement looks from a distance. And don’t be afraid to move things around until you find the perfect placement!

Be creative with your artwork display approach

While one popular way to display art is by hanging it on the walls, it isn’t always suitable for all types of home interiors. There are other ways of breathing new life into your living room using a creative artwork display approach. Another option is to display art on shelves or in cabinets. This can be a great way to show off smaller pieces or to keep larger pieces safe from little hands. If you’re using shelves, try grouping similar items together for a more cohesive look. For example, you could arrange all of your nature-themed artwork on one shelf and your abstract pieces on another.

Whichever approach you choose, remember that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to displaying art. The most important thing is that you choose a method that works for you and your home. So go ahead and get creative! Your living room is the perfect place to start showing off your collection.
