Summer heat can be unbearable at times, but there are ways to combat the heat and still enjoy the summer weather. The summer period is a time when the temperature outside soars and people often look for ways to escape the heat. Some common ways to combat summer heat are by staying indoors in air-conditioning, going swimming, or enjoying icy treats. Air conditioning is one of the most effective ways to combat the summer heat. When it is hot outside, air-conditioning can make the indoor temperature much more bearable. Here is an easy guide to combating summer heat.

When Do You Experience Summer?

Summer officially arrives when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, which in the Northern Hemisphere, is around June 21. This is also the longest day of the year, or the summer solstice. From this day onward, the days start getting shorter again until December 21, the winter solstice. The weather during summer is usually hot and humid. This is because the Earth’s tilt causes the sun’s rays to be more direct than during other seasons.

What Causes Summer Heat?

The sun’s heat causes the atmosphere to warm, which then transfers the heat to the Earth’s surface. The ground then heats the air above it, and this rising hot air produces convection currents. These are what cause summer weather patterns, like heat waves. The sun’s heat also causes evaporation, which leads to the formation of clouds. These clouds can help trap heat near the ground, making it even hotter. This is why cloudy days are often hotter than sunny days.

How You Can Combat Summer Heat

Make Sure Your Air Conditioner Is Working

Check your air conditioner before the hot weather hits to make sure it’s in good working order. The people behind Billy Aircon suggest scheduling a tune-up with a professional if necessary. They have years of experience in putting air conditioners in good shape at an affordable rate. The last thing you want is for your air conditioner to break down in the middle of a heatwave. This will help ensure that your home is cool and comfortable all summer long. This is one of the important ways to combat heat without stress.

Stay Hydrated

This is probably the most important tip. When it’s hot outside, your body is sweating as a way to cool down. This means you’re losing water and need to replace it by drinking fluids – preferably water or fruit juice. Avoid sugary drinks like soda, as they can actually make you feel more dehydrated.  And drink before you’re thirsty, as by the time you feel thirsty, you may already be dehydrated. The Institute of Medicine recommends men drink about 13 cups (3 liters) of fluid a day, and women drink about 9 cups (2.2 liters). This includes fluid from food, so if you eat a lot of watery fruits and vegetables, you may not need to drink as much.

 Limit Your Time Outdoors

This is especially important if you’re going to be outside during the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest. If you have to be outside, try to find some shade, or take breaks in the shade as often as possible. The sun’s rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so if you can stay indoors during those hours, do so. It’s also a good idea to wear loose, light-colored clothing that covers as much of your skin as possible. And don’t forget the sunscreen. This is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Make sure to use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and reapply it every two hours, or more often if you’re sweating or swimming.

Wear Loose Cotton Clothes

Wearing loose clothes made of natural fabrics like cotton will help your body to breathe and stay cool. The loose fabric will also protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. This is especially important if you’ll be spending time outdoors. It’s also a good idea to wear a hat or scarf to protect your head and face from the sun. The key is to keep your skin covered as much as possible to prevent sunburn. However, you don’t want to wear too many layers as you may start to feel overheated.

In conclusion, there are many ways to combat the summer heat. Some people prefer to stay indoors with air conditioning, while others enjoy spending time outdoors in cooler weather. There are also a variety of clothing options and accessories that can help keep you cool in the summer heat. Whatever your preference, there is sure to be a way to help you beat the heat this summer.
