Real Energy Suckers

Certain appliances can draw a huge amount of energy even when turned off. From air conditioners, heat pumps, and water heaters, to clothes dryers, these machines will make you pay huge energy bills. That’s why you should unplug them whenever not in use.

Air Conditioning

An air conditioner is rated at 3,800 watts. The cost per hour of an HVAC system is $0.46. This device can keep your home cool. However, you need to pay. If you leave it on all day, you may end up paying up to $340 per month in the summer.

Use the system effectively. Use temperature adjustment setting correctly. Shut it off if you aren’t using it. During cooler days, unplug it completely to save energy.

Heat Pump

Rated at 4,700 watts, the cost of running a heat pump is around $0.56 per hour. In a day, you can use up to $14.54. This is a huge cost. Using it effectively will save you a lot of energy. In particular, shut it off and unplug it when not in use. Unplug it during warmer months.

Water Heater

On average, a water heater can use $0.54 per hour. With a rating of 4,500 watts, a water heater can cost you $50 per month. The best thing about a water heater is that it won’t run all the time. The only time it runs is when heating the water. Unplugging it every time and then isn’t practical. The only thing you can do is to adjust the water heater to a lower temperature setting. It will save you energy.

Clothes Dryer

A clothes dryer makes work easy. However, you don’t have to use it when it’s hot or sunny outside. Make use of the free sun to dry your clothes. This small effort will have a positive impact on your utility bills.

Also, only dry on a full load. To save more energy, make use of the sensor rather than manually timing it.

Water Pump

The average wattage of a water pump is 725 watts. The cost of running it per hour is $0.09. This means that you will spend $2.16 per day if you leave it on all the time. Unplugging your water pump isn’t practical. The only thing you need to do is to purchase the right type of pump. Also, run it only when you need it.

The Bottom-Line

Making your home energy efficient is an important process in managing utility bills. One of the best ways to manage bills is to unplug certain appliances. From TV to HVAC systems, unplugging these appliances will bring down the cost of utility bills in your home.
