Like all plants, a lawn needs water to grow. If you live in an area where rain is sparse, you’d be well advised to have a watering schedule that you stick to so your grass stays growing and green. Water Your New Lawn Immediately

Once you plant new turf in your garden, you should water it immediately, because, when the grass is harvested, big portions of roots are cut. Therefore, you must water immediately to allow the turf to establish itself and recover from the shock of being moved to a new area. If the roots can easily access water and nutrients from the soil, your new lawn will grow quickly.

Sprinkler System

Make sure you buy quality turf that suits your local environment and research it so you are able to choose the best watering method. Experienced growers and suppliers of lawns at West Turf in Brisbane can supply a sprinkler system that is recommended for newly laid grass. A sprinkler is ideal since it doesn’t pressure your new turf, which could damage the roots. Choose a sprinkler system recommended for the size and position of your garden.

Provide Enough Water

Each watering session should be long and heavy enough to soak the ground underneath, which will give you a uniform growth of your lawn. The water must be able to penetrate the soil to reach the roots underneath. If your lawn has just been laid, you can lift one corner of the rolls to check if the soil is moist. If there are signs of moisture stress, you need to apply more water. Once your lawn is established, you can check the leaves to see if they are not showing signs of drying.

However, you also need to avoid overwatering your lawn since this can cause problems like mold, a proliferation of weeds, and the weakening of the roots. Too much water leads to leaching, and you may need to reapply fertilizer or other nutrients.

Choose the Best Time

You might not be aware that there are good times and not-so-good times to water your lawn. Generally, the best time is early morning or late in the evening so you avoid water wastage and evaporation. Don’t water when the sun is at its hottest at midday, however, if your climate is warm, you can consider watering your lawn twice a day to prevent moisture stress.

Apply Spot Watering

You can apply spot watering to combat the issue of dry patches. This usually happens a few weeks after laying your turf. Your lawn might not maintain uniform growth when it is still becoming established, but this should not worry you. Inspect it regularly to identify dry patches that may need more water.

Investing in quality turf for your garden is a great idea to improve the appearance of your home. However, the lawn is prone to drying if it has not due to several factors. If you want a healthy and thriving turf, you should implement the best watering practices outlined above. Once your turfgrass is established, it requires very little maintenance.
