Most summer vacations bring millions of tourists from around the world to the hotels and resorts. And most of them prefer a crystal clear pool.

Don’t worry; we’re sharing six life-saving pool tips for your hotel. You’ll be glad you’ve read them.

6 Life-Saving Hotel Pool Tips You Must Follow

You’ll be wise to maintain your pool’s overall requirements regularly. No business wants its customers to fall sick or suffer severe injuries due to lousy pool services.

What was the last time you checked your pool? Is there too much chlorine in pool water? Was the drainage system repaired? How many lifeguards have you appointed to ensure safety?

These and more similar questions must be outlined and answered.

For now, you can check the following six most essential tips to maintain and enhance the hotel pool experience:

1. Put Commercial Pool Regulations to Action

You must know and implement your hotel’s pool’s health and safety regulations. The NFS (National Sanitation System) regulates public health and safety and certifies pool compliance.

You can check the following aspects of your pool’s safety if you apply these rules:

  • Water tasting device
  • Drain and suction fittings
  • Water pumps
  • Chemical level tasting

Another standard you should maintain for your pool’s maintenance is the Americans with Disabilities Act. This act ensures that disabled guests can slide in and out of the pool water with ergonomic tools and arrangements.

Besides, measure your pool size and number correctly as it may contribute to the tax factors.

2. Assign Lifeguards Nearby the Pool

That “swim at your own risk” is a bad practice for hotel businesses. You must realize that an undesired pool accident of your guest can shock most of the other nearby guests. Eventually, they won’t visit your hotel next time.

So, to evade such an ill reputation, increase the pool’s safety by appointing lifeguards. They’re well-trained in noticing the slightest anomalies in the water. Thus they’re prompt in handling any possible drowning situation.

A well-equipped lifeguard can give his best effort in saving a drowned guest through CPR and relevant actions.

Professional lifeguards can ensure maintaining all the safety gear and arrangements nearby the pool. They can notify you instantly if your pool needs upgrading, including the drain system, pool timer, diving board, deck area, etc.

Ignoring the importance of lifeguards might compromise other pool safety measures.

3. Repair or Upgrade the Pool Drain System

Pool accidents due to the drain suction system are happening every other day. Sometimes the swimmers are not careful to avoid the suction area. Occasionally, a drain system that is not upgraded or needs repair can cause such accidents.

You don’t need this in your customer service. So, how to handle the situation?

You can implement the following measures to prevent such unfortunate events:

  • Apply the drain cover (as per pool standards & regulations) to the drain gate.
  • Make sure if there are multiple drains, they’re installed three feet apart.
  • As for a single drain or suction system, ensure it has a suction-limiting vent, automatic shut-off option, safety vacuum release system, and a gravity drainage system.

You must be aware of the functions and possible consequences of a powerful drainage system.

A single drainage system can pull about four hundred pounds. And it’s extremely difficult for anyone to swim away once trapped.

Can you pull a victim off the suction in such an event? Well, you should do as following:

  • Step 1: Slip your palm between the victim’s body and the suction grids.
  • Step 2: Shut off or limit the suction power and pull the person off the trap.
  • Step 3: If none is nearby to handle the suction power, use your wedging palm to pull or slide the person sideways.

Remember, preventive measures are far better than acting right on the accidental moments. So, point out what upgrade or repair your pool’s drain system requires. Invest in the standard safety features today.

No Nearby Running and Random Diving

The other two factors that compromise the safety of your hotel’s pool are scurrying by the poolside and random diving. The pool’s deck is concrete-made, which is rock hard when wet.

Any old guest or kid can slip and be flung on that merciless surface. This can result in a broken skull or bone, fractured arms or legs, or a shattered backbone.

Maintain a clean and dry deck as follows:

  • Instruct your pool attendants to mop up the puddle of water regularly.
  • Install slip-proof deck material to reduce slips and falls.
  • Pin and post signs to warn guests about not making the deck area wet.
  • Also, request guests not to walk carelessly by the poolside to knock over others into the pool water.

Random or inappropriate diving into the pool can cause serious injuries.

How to avoid these unintended injuries? Your lifeguards can instruct the guests about some basic preventions as below:

  • Never dive with your feet first if it’s shallow water.
  • Dip your feet first if you’re swimming in a deep water level.
  • Don’t drink and dive.
  • Get expert help on how to dive properly.
  • Do necessary back-strengthening exercises if you swim regularly.

Give your best effort to implement the above safety tips. Ignoring these might result in serious injuries you might not be able to handle.

5. Maintain Water and Chemical Proportionately

Chlorine keeps the pool water free of germs and bacteria. But when it gets too concentrated in the water, it might cause skin irritation, red eyes, and respiratory complications.

Besides, chlorine can turn into chloramine if it interacts with certain substances: guests’ cosmetics, urine, dirt, or sweat in the water.

Do the following to avoid the chloramine effects:

  • Instruct guests to take a shower before entering the pool.
  • Apply ‘Shock’ treatment weekly when the chlorine level is ten times higher than the normal amount.
  • Repair or upgrade your pool’s ventilation system.
  • Clean the pool filters regularly.

It’s a good business practice to care for your guests’ health and hygiene. So, ensure them by maintaining the above tips.

6. Mind the Water Electrocution Hazard

Water electrocution in pools has taken many lives to date. And if you don’t want to add more numbers to that list, take the necessary steps today.

To reduce the electrical hazard in your hotel pool(s), ensure the following tasks:

  • Apply NEC (National Electrical Code) and any local electrical code by an expert pool electrician to your pool.
  • Hire an expert to inspect underwater lights and other electrical lines regularly.
  • Appoint trained people to handle circuit breakers or inappropriate wire underwater.
  • Use a fiberglass hook to pull an electrocuted victim from the pool water. This will resist the electricity from transferring to the savior.

EndNote

The six tips we’ve shared can turn your hotel pool into a better swimming and hygiene experience. Don’t forget that the poolside is a center of attraction in your hotel or resort business.

Besides, maintaining pool safety and hygiene can boost your business significantly. It increases the gross customer return rate every month and year.

Also, you can prove your business to be socially responsible by maintaining national and local pool maintenance regulations.
