We spend nearly a third of our lives in our bedrooms, and an ideal bedroom should be a cozy space to relax and unwind before each night of restful sleep. Even if you don’t have the luxury of sleeping for eight or more hours every night, your master bedroom should be comfortable, functional, and tastefully decorated. Beautiful bedroom furniture and a premium-quality mattress are the centerpieces of any comfortable bedroom! Here are a few easy ways to make your bedroom more comfortable and luxurious at a price that will easily fit your budget.

1. Choose the Right Colors

Choosing the right paint colors is a great place to start, and the choices might seem a little overwhelming at first. Snap Your Colors enables you to upload a photo of your bedroom and preview your color choices, and you can browse to your heart’s content. Most people prefer cool colors or soft pastels for the bedroom because they’re more relaxing than warm colors such as red or orange. You can also select neutral tones such as beige or taupe for the walls so that you’ll have more freedom to decorate and accessorize in the future.

2. Create The Right Flow

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese decorating philosophy that seeks to establish harmony within a space, and interior decorators utilize its principles throughout the world. Feng shui practitioners are always interested in maintaining the proper flow of energy (also known as “chi”) throughout the home. Cramming a bed into a corner or storing boxes underneath the bed blocks the flow of chi and makes the room feel cluttered.

It’s best to place your headboard against a solid wall and leave space around the other three sides of the bed. You should also avoid pointing the foot of your mattress directly toward the door or setting up your headboard underneath rafters or a sloping ceiling.

3. Include Plenty of Storage

It’s challenging to keep a small bedroom from getting cluttered up, and you’ll want ample closet space and enough drawers to store all of your clothing and jewelry. You’ll never have to worry about seeing a messy bedroom in the morning when you have enough space to put everything away before bedtime!

4. Upgrade Your Window Treatments

You have plenty of great options for window treatments, and they include blinds, drapes, and sheer linen curtains. Blinds and shutters are the most effective option for blocking out the sun, and you can break up their hard visual lines by adding soft valances in lighter colors. You can also install blackout shades behind your curtains if you want to steal a few more hours of sleep on Saturday morning.

5. Use Ambient LED Lighting

LED Lighting uses less wattage than conventional lighting, and you should install bulbs with a color temperature between 2700-3750K for soft, warm lighting that’s ideal for bedrooms. Floor lamps and table lamps are great ways to add task lighting in the master bedroom, and you can create more ambiance by installing a few wall sconces with a dimmer switch.

6. Invest in Quality Linens

When your new mattress is delivered, you’ll want to pick the right linens and bedding to complement your bedroom suite. You can’t go wrong with Egyptian cotton sheets with a high thread count, but you might also enjoy the feel of flannel or jersey sheets. It’s OK to use the dust ruffle and pillow shams that are included with your bedding, but too many throw pillows can make your bed feel less cozy and more cluttered.

7. Add A Reading Nook

People who say that bedrooms are only for sleeping don’t understand life with a houseful of children! Every busy parent needs a quiet place to escape from time to time, and it doesn’t take much work to create a comfortable seating area in your bedroom. Many homes already include a bay window seating nook with built-in storage, and it’s a great place to relax under a warm blanket on a rainy day and enjoy your favorite book. You can also make room in a corner for your favorite recliner or rocking chair and a reading lamp.

8. Rehab Your Furniture

Every good night’s sleep begins with a quality mattress. It’s hard to justify the purchase of new furniture when you’re redecorating your bedroom on a budget, but the good news is that you can breathe new life into your old furniture with a can of paint or wood stain. If you’re not a seasoned DIY expert, you might want to start out by refinishing a small end table or nightstand before moving on to the larger pieces of furniture. If you’re happy with your current bedroom furniture, you can also replace the door pulls with cabinet hardware that better fits your new design.

Create Your Dream Bedroom!

Bedrooms should be comfortable places to spend the end of each busy day, and it’s important to make good decorating decisions. The room will be the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see when you drift off to sleep, so the room should be the right combination of style and comfort.
