As sleep has such strong links to safeguarding your emotional and physical health, it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re wearing the right kind of attire to bed.

Premium sleepwear brand Eberjey makes the best womens pajamas featuring soft and breathable fabrics like silk and cotton to help you get a comfortable night of sleep. However, there are a couple of items that you should flat-out avoid when it comes to bedtime.

If you want to know what you shouldn’t wear to bed, feel free to read on!

Fabrics

Before we mention specific garments, we’d like to start by discussing the fabrics that you shouldn’t wear to bed for a comfortable night of sleep.

Low-Quality Fabrics

This one is a little obvious but if you opt to wear high-quality fabrics, you’ll likely be a lot more comfortable when you go to bed. A quality cotton fabric with a much lower overall thread count will be considerably more durable and far softer than its low-quality counterpart.

Synthetic Fabrics

Synthetic fabrics include anything from polyester to nylon. These are awful fabrics to wear to sleep as they cling to the skin and will trap moisture and heat. This will make you feel hot throughout the night which could disrupt your sleep!

Tight Fitting Clothes

Tight clothes can be a hindrance when you’re awake and aware of them, let alone when you are fast asleep in your bed!

When you are tossing and turning at night and subsequently shifting yourself into new positions, tight-fitting clothes like spandex shorts can tighten to a point where they might even begin to cut off your circulation.

To prevent this from occurring in the first place, you should opt for loose cotton clothing to fall asleep in. This includes traditional pajama sets or even an oversized shirt or nightgown if that’s your preference.

A Bra

Women were once encouraged to ditch the bra in bed to prevent their breasts from fully sagging. But, in recent years, studies have proven that wearing a bra is not only extremely uncomfortable but can also impact your breathing as you sleep.

We’d suggest ditching the bra for a night to see how you get on and then adjusting your routine accordingly.

Underwear

Many people wear underwear to bed. In fact, this is one of the most common nighttime practices for people of all ages. However, it could be doing more harm than good.

Boxers and panties can easily become a common ground for bacteria to occur and might go on to cause irritation and even yeast infections in the worst cases.

Although going commando to bed might seem a bit intimidating we’d strongly suggest considering it if you want to safeguard your health at night.

Dirty Clothes

Okay, we probably don’t need to explicitly tell you this, but we’ve included it anyway.

Many people prefer sleeping in the same pair of pajamas each night. If they’re comfortable and create ideal conditions for a good night of sleep, it’s easy to see why individuals may repeatedly wear them!

As comforting as a quality pair of pajamas may be, sleeping in dirty pajamas (that is, pajamas that have been worn multiple times in a row) could be harmful to your health due to a build-up of bacteria.

The solution is to wear your chosen pajamas anywhere from two to four times before you put them into the wash.

Makeup

Beauty sleep is an essential part of anyone’s sleep routine. Yet going to sleep while wearing makeup is never a good way to achieve this!

When makeup is left on overnight, it creates a huge build-up of oil and dirt that doesn’t get washed off. It may cause your skin to dry out, cause pimples, create skin sensitivity and redness, and might also speed up the aging process.

A simple solution is to remove any makeup before you put your head on the pillow. Use a gentle facial cleanser and an eye-safe makeup remover to take off this additional layer.

Summary

When you’re settling down for the night, make sure you’re wearing loose garments made using natural fabrics instead of tight synthetic fabrics. This is because these types of fabrics will keep you cool, calm, and comfortable all night long. You should also ensure that you remove all makeup to keep your skin as clear as possible.
