Take your time and look at the different options before deciding on anything. Here are some of the most common designs you will come across when looking for a house.
Contemporary Floor Plan
These days a house isn’t just a home; it is a design and a specific style. A house isn’t just making sure that you have all the necessary furniture and appliances but also getting things that suit a specific look and feel. The first home design we have on our list is the contemporary one. Contemporary houses are based on simple and clean looks with straight lines and large windows that don’t have any trim.
In a contemporary house, everything follows a simplistic style and has its place. This style contains mostly muted tones such as grays, whites, blacks, and beiges. They also use various materials, from natural ones, such as stone and wood, to man-made ones, such as tin.
Traditional Floor Plan
Next up on our house style list is the more traditional floor plan. You will most commonly find this house style in the United States. In the suburbs, there are plenty of these traditional houses to be found, surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns and big driveways.
This style can be considered a mix of a few, including a more classic and simpler design. These houses also make use of many muted tones such as grays, blacks, and whites, but opposing the contemporary style, windows and door frames have thick trim to frame them, and windows are typically very symmetrical. The main building materials you will find in this kind of house are wood and brick, and they give off a timeless feel.
Cape Cod or Farm Ranch
Moving on down the list, we have a name that might be less familiar to you: Cape Cod. These houses first started making their way to the world in the early 18th century as an adapted version of older English houses.
They are typically made from timber slats and have a much more natural look. Most of these houses have two stores, with the main bedroom on the lower floor and the other bedrooms occupying the second floor. A big identifying feature of these houses is the material used, and in this case, it is mostly wood.
Two-Story Homes
Two-story homes come in and out of fashion constantly. However, they will always be something that people will look for. They are typically much better for those who have larger families and need to accommodate more people.
However, they are not so great for people who might have difficulty getting up the stairs. If you think about it, any style or design of a house could be adapted into a two-story home; it just needs to be done correctly.
Multi-level Home
Last but not least, we have a multilevel home. This is something that many people outside of the United States might not be too familiar with; however, it can be pretty common to come across. Multi-level homes, while from the outside, may still look like two-story homes, have their hidden secrets, basements, and attics.
Basements add a whole other level to the house where you can add more bedrooms, have a laundry room, or even host your entertainment area. These basements are typically underground and don’t have windows that look outside or at least much above ground. This is another great type of house for those looking for a little extra space.
